When should I hire a death doula? │End-of-life care options

You may hire an end-of-life companion anytime! Even if you are not terminally ill, an end-of-life guide can help you with advance planning. Many people hire a death doula when a terminal diagnosis is reached, but many may also seek a doula’s assistance even as far into the dying process as weeks or even days from death.

I have been referred to families who have as much as six months, to as little as 72 hours before death — I have even been called for grief support, 48 hours after a sudden death. (Death doulas who specialize in grief support, care, and guidance may call themselves “bereavement doulas.” We can help after death, too.)

It is never too late to reach out for end-of-life support and holistic death care.
